It's 'Way Back Wednesday' and this time we set the temporal co-ordinates for 2015 with another card for Lou.
Lou loves Disney so a choice of subject matter for her cards is not really a problem. However, after doing several of the animated style images for the previous years, I decided to do something different. Seeing as how Martin gets portrait cards, I thought it was high time I did one for Lou.
As Cinderella had become a live action film that year, I chose that as the subject for that year.
Two things really drew me (art pun!) to this image, the hair and skirts. I love drawing anything that needs lots of detailing and layering and they were so much fin to do. It was a challenge to get the right mix of blues and purples for the skirts but I think they came out just fine.
Done with wax pencils and built up in layers, utilising my usual pressure application techniques and it consists of 23 colours.
Cinderella's skin was done with white, dark flesh, medium flesh, light flesh, walnut brown, black, cold grey 1, cold grey 2, cold grey 3 and cold grey 6.
Her hair was done with white, raw umber, brown ochre (dark), brown ochre (light), siena natur ochre (light), terracotta, black, cold grey 6 and burnt umber.
Her ball gown was done with white, violet, light phthalo blue, light blue, dark phthalo blue, manganese violet, brown ochre and light ochre.
Finally the background was done with white, light phthalo blue, light blue, dark phthalo blue, permanent olive green, brown ochre (light), light ochre, cold grey 6 and burnt umber.
Completion time: 91 hours.
Original image: Disney's Cinderella movie poster.
I didn't do 'from my desk' shots back then but here's the framed image before it was given and a close up because I loved doing that hair!
