Card done for Ailsa's birthday, April 2016.
Having done a few theatre and steampunk portraits for Ailsa, I changed tack last year with an animal print. This year I continued in that theme with a pair of white tiger cubs.
Being white tiger cubs, they were somewhat easier to draw that ordinary tigers because the colour pallete consists mainly of greys and browns with a few colours for detailing.
Done with polychromos pencils and built up in layers, utilising my usual pressure application techniques, the picture consists of just 13 colours.
The cubs were done with white, ivory, medium flesh, grey green, dark sepia, walnut brown, nougat, cinnamon, black, cold grey 1, cold grey 2, warm grey 2 and warm grey 4. The fine fur detailing was done with a black 0.1 techpoint drawing pen and then the colours were layered over the top to soften the ink.
The background was done as a simple wash of warm grey 2 with white highlights.
Completion time: 51 hours, 19 minutes.
